Will Starz make “The White Princess” Miniseries?

After “The White Queen” finale last night on Starz many fans were asking – will there be another season?! According to the Telegraph, Starz is working to create a TV show based on Philippa Gregory’s latest novel, “The White Princess”.

In its infinite wisdom, the BBC chose to drop The White Queen, which starred Rebecca Ferguson, but an American cable channel is to recommission the enjoyable, if flawed, show.

Mandrake hears that Starz hopes to develop The White Princess, a stand-alone mini-series which is also based on Philippa Gregory’s novel series, The Cousins’ War.

A spokesman for Starz says American audiences are more forgiving than their British cousins when it came to historical inaccuracies.

“The White Queen” was filmed as a miniseries, ten episodes total, and was based on Philippa Gregory’s “The Cousins’ War” series. It was not meant to have a sequel, but the fans in the US have been asking and it looks like they are going to deliver! Or at least we hope they do! The fifth book in “The Cousins’ War”, that just came out this summer, is titled “The White Princess” and tells the story of Elizabeth, daughter of Elizabeth Woodville.

We will definitely post more news about this exciting development as soon as we know! Were you a fan of “The White Queen”? Would you watch this series? Let us know in the comments!

  1. NO PLEASE! NOT THE WHITE PRINCESS BULLSHIT! Henry and Elizabeth loved each other: he never had mistress, never remarried, almost die of grief when she died, Elizabeth wrote love poems about him, was totally devoted to him… so tired of PG pretending being an historian

  2. The White Princess (novel by Phillippa Gregory) was a disappointing read to me, not as good as the White Queen. It was too “johnny one-note” to my taste — pounding away at the changling/pretender storyline of Perkin Warbeck, etc, and totally putting forth Elizabeth sleeping with and falling in love with Richard (as if it were actual historical fact), to the extent that Elizabeth could hardly care for Henry VII. I think I’ve read (in non-fiction) that historically Elizabeth was a good and kindly queen, and mother of Henry VIII after all(!), so worthy of more respectful treatment than Gregory’s novel gives her. And tragic to a degree — her first son Arthur and the heir apparent died young (from being shunted off to an old drafty castle), even after his “good” political marriage off the the daughter of the King of Spain, and Elizabeth herself died in childbirth; saddest part was the death of her mother, and how she had to kow-tow to Margaraet Beaufort (who survived her and elaborately planned her funeral, the the protocols for royal confinement.

A mini-series based on that book would depend on some great casting — in the personages of Henry Tudor and Elizabeth of York.

  3. fixing typo, etcs: And tragic to a degree — Elizabeth’s first son Arthur died young (after being shunted off to an old drafty castle), after his “good” political marriage to the the daughter of the King of Spain (Catherine of Aragon, who later marries Arthur’s surviving brother Henry), and Elizabeth herself died in childbirth. Saddest part was the death of her mother (Elizabeth Woodville, former Queen of England), and how she had to kow-tow to the formidable Margaret Beaufort (who survived her and who elaborately planned Elizabeth’s funeral, as well as establishing all the protocols for royal confinements).

  4. LOVED The Tudors , LOVED The White Queen so I am up for any sequel . Somewhere I thought the next series would be The Red Queen , but The White Princess sounds interesting . Please just don’t leave us hanging forever .
