RECAP: The X Factor (Live Show Week 6)

Last week on “The X Factor” the remaining six acts were fighting for their place in this week’s semi-finals. Each act sang two songs, their first of which were Diva songs and the second was Unplugged, with no distractions it was just them and the microphone.

Simon’s Groups were up first with Restless Road singing their Diva song, ‘Red’ by Taylor Swift. The boys were amazing, they have grown so much over the past three months, what an incredible act, we definitely want to see them in the final. Up next, having survived the sing off last week was the adorable Rion Paige with Carrie Underwoods ‘See You Again’, impressing the judges with her performance, they loved it except Simon who wasn’t a huge fan of her song choice. The last remaining contestant representing the Over 25’s was up next. Jeff Gutt took to the stage with Mariah Carey’s ‘Without You’, Jeff  really proved his place in the competition showing how far he has come, we’re so happy for Jeff he deserves to do amazing in his career. Up next was Ellona Santiago with Lady Gaga’s ‘Applause. We were not feeling her version of the song but we cannot deny the girl has talent. The final Group Alex & Sierra were next to take the stage, taking on a Destiny Child’s song, their version of ‘Say My Name’ was incredible, managing to even blow Kelly away with her own song.Simon believes these two are winners. The final of the Diva performances came from Carlito Olivero with Jennifer Lopez’ ‘Let’s Get Loud’, the females of the judging panel were not impressed with his performance but Simon and his mentor Paulina still see the potential with Carlito.

The Unplugged songs were up next and they were tear jerkers, stripped down showing their amazing vocals, these performances definitely messed with our emotions. First up was Restless Road with their incredible version of Avicii’s ‘Wake Me Up’, their performance received a standing ovation from the judges who as well as the boys clearly moved by their performance. How amazing were they? Following last week’s show both of the boys songs reached record high’s for the competition on Itunes. Rion Paige was up next with her beautiful performance of Thompson Squares ‘Glass’ and it reduced us as well as the judges to tears, it was simply stunning.  Following Rion was Jeff Gutt with Elton John’s ‘Daniel’, another performance that divided the judges. This was an emotional episode of “The X Factor” not only were the acts singing for their place in the Semi-Final but they were singing for their families, their friends and their hometowns . Ellona Santiago was next with Beyonce’s ‘If I Were A Boy’, great vocals from Ellona showing off her amazing talent. Alex & Sierra returned to the stage with their performance of ‘Say Somthing’ by A Great Big World . With Sierra on piano and Alex with his guitar this performance was unbelievably beautiful. Last to take to the stage was Carlito Olivero with the Prince Royce version of Ben E. Kings ‘Stand By Me’ showing his Latino roots doing what he does best, his performance was an amazing end to an amazing night on the show. We cannot tell you how much we loved this Live Show, all of the acts gave their everything, they all deserve to be in the competition.

Results night kicked off with the first of the double elimination which saw Ellona Santiago leave the competition to everyone’s shock. Emblem 3 then returned to “The X Factor” stage with their latest single ‘Just For One Day’. It was then time to announce the bottom two acts who will sing for the final spot in the semi-final, Rion Paige and Carlito Olivero will sing in the final showdown. As the acts prepared another X Factor success hit the stage, as winners of the British show Little Mix performed ‘Move’. Singing for their place in the semi-finals Rion Paige was first to perform with ‘The House That Built Me’ by Miranda Lambert followed by Carlito Olivero who performed Usher’s ‘You Make Me Wanna’. It was now up to the judges; Demi and Paulina chose to keep their own acts leaving the decision to Kelly and Simon, both sending home Rion, Carlito has advanced to the semi-finals.

“The X Factor” semi-finals air Wednesday and Thursday at 8/7c on FOX.

Cassie Clare Talks CITY OF ASHES Movie Spoilers

Cassandra Clare talked to MTV about the CITY OF ASHES movie, scheduled to start production in 2014, and what we should expect from our beloved characters!

“Simon (Robert Sheehan) is turned into a vampire,” Clare teases, “And he goes from being this human who’s Clary’s friend to this ravenous undead thing.” Clare adds that she pushed for Sheehan in the role, with early discussions about his casting centering on how right he’d look stalking the night and sucking blood. “Robbie was actually my idea,” she says. “I saw him in ‘Misfits,’ which is a big comedy hit in Britain, and he’s just so good and yet also able to be heartbreaking and I thought he’ll be great and he will enjoy the hell out of being a vampire.”

What else can fans expect from “City of Ashes?” Well, Sigourney Weaver is joining the series as the Inquisitor. Describing the previously-announced casting, Clare says the character is “This badass, scary lady” that fans can expect to enjoy. Although she’s sworn to secrecy about any other details for the adaptation, Clare says there’s a massive battle on the deck of a warship capping the second story that she’s excited to see onscreen.

RECAP: The X Factor (Live Show Week 2)

The week on “The X Factor” there was a huge mix up with voting that means each act performed on both nights. On Wednesday night’s show their was a graphics error in the voting numbers shown which discarded all votes cast, because of this each act had to perform their ‘save me’ song on Thursday nights planned results show with the results set to be announced at the beginning of tonight’s show instead. It was a rough start for the first week of the public voting but lets hope it stays on track from here on.

The night started out with a super fun performance from the final acts who sang a Motown medley, it was a great start to Wednesday night’s Motown themed show. Unexpectedly the Judges decided to bring back Josh Levi as a wild card with all of the them realizing it was a mistake sending home in last week’s live show. Josh returned to kick off the show with ‘Who’s Loving You’ by the Jackson 5, proving the point that he deserves to be in the finals. Rachel Potter was next to perform, representing Kelly and The Over 25’s with a country twist on the Isley Brothers ‘This Old Heart Of Mine’. Her performance divided the judges with Simon not being a fan of the performance but all the other judges loved Rachel‘s performance and we have to agree with them, it was really entertaining. Carlos Guevara was up next with his average performance of Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On?’, the judges picked up on the weaknesses in his performance, acknowledging his talent and giving him some constructive criticism. Following Carlos was the first of Simon’s Groups,  Restless Road. They took to the stage with the Commodores song ‘Easy’ and their amazing talent shone through winning the Judges approval and ours of course, we’re really rooting for this Group. The first of Demi’s Girls, Ellona Santiago was next to perform with ‘Baby Love’ by The Supremes. Ellona who spent the week struggling to balance her X Factor rehearsals and taking her SAT’s received high praises from the judges for her wonderful performance.

Back to Kelly’s Over 25’s and Jeff Gutt with his performance of  Lionel Richie’s ‘Say You Say Me’, the single dad surprised the judges with his incredible performance. Alex & Sierra were next to take the stage with Marvin Gaye’s ‘Heard It Through The Grapevine’,  blowing everyone away with their amazing performance returning to their sultry roots. Khaya Cohen was next up with her sweet performance of The Temptations’ ‘My Girl’. We then saw a performance from Carlito Olivero, Representing The Boys singing The Supremes’ ‘In The Name Of Love’. Carlito’s performance lacked something, it did not stand out against the rest of the acts of the night. Lillie McCloud was next to take the stage, with her wonderful performance of  Stevie Wonder’s ‘All in Love is Fair’. Following Lillie was the Final act from the Groups Sweet Suspense who took to the stage with their rendition of The Supremes ‘You Keep Me Hanging On’. They won the judges over with their fun and energetic performance with Kelly saying she believed their was definitely a gap in the market for these girl. The penultimate performance of the night came from The Girls with Rion Paige ,her performance of  Marvin Gaye’s ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ was well received by the judges although she did not receive the high praises she has in the past. The Final Performance of Wednesday night’s show came from Paulina with Tim Olstad . His performance of The Jackson 5’s ‘I’ll Be There’ failed to impress Kelly and Demi. However, Simon believes he has finally found the type of artist Tim is, he believes he is a Donnie Osmonde, Josh Groban-esk act. We can completely see where Simon is coming from as Tim is not the running around the stage, dancing type of artist.

Thursday night’s show which should have been the results show, turned into a second night of performances due to the graphics glitch. An incredible pressure for the Acts with just hours to prepare, their performances were rushed through to keep the show to an hour with little comments from the judges being allowed. In the same order as the previous night Josh Levi kicked off the show with his incredible performance of Rhianna’s ‘Stay’. Rachel Potter was next to perform with Martina McBride’s ‘Anyway’, winning the judges approval. Following Rachel was Carlos Guevara who wonderfully sang Damien Rice’s ‘Cannonball’. Restless Road then took to the stage with Jason Aldean’s ‘Don’t You Wanna Stay’, although a little nervous the boys were amazing. Up next representing The Girls was Ellona Santiago with David Guetta and Sia’s ‘Titanium’, her performance was incredible with the judges agreeing it was her best yet. Jeff Gutt was next to take the stage singing Phil Colins’ ‘In The Air Tonight. Following Jeff was Alex & Sierra with ‘Gimme Love’ by Ed Sheeran, it was a perfect performance for the duo. Khaya Cohen was next to take the stage with her unbelievable performance of Duffy’s ‘Distant Dreamer’, Khaya blew everyone away with this performance. Following Khaya, representing The Boy’s was an ill Carlito Olivero with Daniel Bedingfield’s ‘If You’re Not The One’, doing a decent performance despite being a little under the weather. Lillie McCloud was up next with her diva-esk performance of Queen’s classic ‘Who Wants To Live Forever’. Next to take the stage was the final Group of the night Sweet Suspense performing Justin Bieber’s  ‘That Should Be Me’. The Final singer of The Girls Rion Paige was next up with her unbelievably incredible, amazingly wonderful (insert any positive adjective) performance of Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’, her performance brought the judges to their feet. This girl is just amazing, she truly gave it her all. The final act of the night was Tim Olstad, who seems to be the act with the most to prove, he sang R. Kelly’s ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ again doing little to impress the judges.

All acts did amazingly well considering the unexpected second performance they all did this week. The results of the public vote will be announced tonight (wednesday) and Selena Gomez’ performance that was scheduled for last week has been pushed back to this week to accommodate the unexpected changes in the show following the voting glitch. Be sure to tune in this week, the show is the most unpredictable it has ever been, there is so much talent and we are constantly being surprised by the acts in each category as they all perform their hearts out each week. On Wednesday night one act will be sent home, with another two acts being sent home Thursday. The competition is the closest it has been since the series began. To find out how you can vote click HERE!

“The X Factor” airs Wednesday & Thursday at 8/7 on FOX.
