10 Reasons I Loved THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE

Here are 10 Reasons I enjoyed CATCHING FIRE more than the first film:

  1.  No more overly shaky camera shots! Can you hear the choir in the background as I dance around in excitement about this? That was one of my biggest pet peeves from the first film, it gave me a headache with all the shake, shake, shake, run, shake, run in the beginning.
  2. THE HUNGER GAMES isn’t exactly a happy, sugar coated, fun loving story. It’s violent. CATCHING FIRE finally hit the nail on the head for me and showed the violent deaths, fights and just overall scary of the arena.
  3. Tagging this along with #2: the violence was attached to all the action. The action wasn’t secluded to just the arena, you felt it in the districts too. For me, the entire movie felt action packed and fast moving.
  4. Costumes galore! I mean Effie alone could lift this reason to the heavens because her outfits are just stunning!
  5. Just like previous YA favorites (I’m looking at you Harry Potter & Twilight) the one liners are key to cutting up the heart breaking scenes. CATCHING FIRE took the one liners to a whole new level. I found myself laughing so hard my stomach hurt and then crying only minutes later.
  6. It was great to see a bunch of new characters popping up among our beloved ones.
  7. Johanna.  In the book, I wasn’t her biggest fan. In the movie, I want to hug her and be her best friend forever and ever. Anyone else agree?
  8. OH MY FINNICK! Sam Claflin was already on my radar after Pirates of the Caribbean  and Snow White & the Huntsman but he just solidified my love for him once I saw this film. He’s the perfect mix of cocky, sexy, hilarious and total sweetheart. That sugar cube scene?! PERFECTION. That water spout scene? If you don’t know what I mean by that, go watch the film and pay close attention. Swooooooon.
  9.  It’s soooooooooo close to book. I was a bit worried just because the book ended in quite the cliff hanger and as much as I hate that I wanted the movies to stay close to the story-line. And they did!
  10. The chemistry between Josh & Jen is FINALLY THERE! Between all their kisses and cute cuddle moments, I felt it. I loved it. Finally.

A tale of unrequited love, a ballad of raw emotion, and the minimalist beat of “Bones” by Ginny Blackmore fosters an empowering narrative that all women have braved. The song whispers an agonizing ambition to be loved by another, the simplest form of affection that is so frequently abused. With every word that escapes her delicate mouth, she exposes a vulnerability that few have been able to manifest while performing.

“Come and lay your bones down with me…”

… is my favorite line of the whole song because of its potent ability to paint a clear illustration of being in a fruitless relationship, merely laying next to a cold pile of bones rather than a loved one. A skeleton, in fact, also personifies the grave reality of the lifeless nature that exists, or in this case non existing, in the relationship.

“I’m very dramatic. It’s probably embarrassing.”

What girl isn’t dramatic, right? In one way or another, we have all been there. Most of us have wounds deep enough resembling the depths of the ocean from failed relationships, but this song combines all of those distasteful feelings to bring about a revelation for those who feel displaced. It consoles the broken hearted and informs those who feel alone, that in fact, they are not forgotten.

“People want to believe that [‘Bones’ is about a particular person], but I did have a bit of an emotional night. I had rented an apartment in Hollywood by myself and it felt like all of my pain from relationships came together on one full moon. I had a few glasses of red wine and set up my computer and my microphone and wrote and recorded that in the apartment. The recording is actually the original one from the apartment.”

Coming from a girl who has had her fair share of heartbreak, it comes to no surprise that this song has been on repeat for the last couple of weeks. As Blackmore revealed the meaning behind “Bones,” this song has no correlation to any specific person in my life, but rather a cumulation of how I have felt in the past. Considering the nature of how the song was fashioned, it truly displays the raw talent that is Ginny Blackmore.

Bachelorette Season Premiere Pushed To May 27th

bachelorette

ABC is reporting that The Bachelorette premiere has moved from May 20th to May 27th at 8pm EST.

Desiree Hartsock (above) is the new bachelorette, will you be watching? I definitely think Des will be bringing a new dynamic to the show, she’s such a sweetheart and very genuine. I don’t have any doubt in my mind that she’s serious about finding someone and won’t have an ending full of “lets wait to get engaged” or “I’m not ready” moments.  Though, I know I’m not the only one concerned about her brother! Last season she brought Sean Lowe home and her brother basically sabotaged their relationship, I wasn’t very impressed with him.

Do you think Desiree was the best choice as Bachelorette? No offense to her, however, I had been hoping for Leslie.  Tell us what you think in the comments or on facebook or twitter.
