What’s the Big Deal on Vogue’s September Issue?

Written by Sara Essoufi

“Feel it. Look how heavy it is. It’s the September issue, ” says a fellow passenger.  Looking out my plane window atop the clouds, close conversation attracts my attention.  Passing the time aboard a 2 ½ hour flight, cialis many are left to their own devices upon which to occupy themselves.

Magazines are a popular choice for brief distraction often flooding supermarkets, grocery stores, gift shops, and bookstores.  Each issue celebrates a brief moment in time focusing on fashion, celebrity, politics, home, or self-improvement. Of all the year’s issues, the month of September carries a definite prominence. But, why?

American Vogue’s current September issue boasts the premiere It-girl, Jennifer Lawrence, on the cover of a 903-page book.  Nine hundred three pages!  Falling just a bit short of last year’s 917 pages.  All of these pages decorated with beautiful, fun, flirty, and some strange but interesting pictures.  Images of flawless models in luxurious clothing give it their best shot to sell it.

That’s it: sell what they are showing.  The September issue is about provoking the public to change up their style, or at least inspire, for the approaching seasons.  Summer is over and fall is on its way.

When the autumn winds roll in, both men and women will have to choose the coats, boots, sweaters, and possible scarves in which to arm themselves.  So should you choose a new trench coat, or possibly prefer a leather jacket?  Will you get the nerve to bust out some knee-high boots or opt for a more sensible riding boot? Scarves or no scarves?  This is your opportunity to decide how you should choose to update, evolve, or transform yourself.  A fresh new start.

Much of this annual tradition dates back to our early school days when we would involve in back-to-school shopping for the new school year.  A whole new wardrobe to be excited about!  New tops and jeans are a nice distraction from the stress of actually having to face boring desks and insignificant assignments.  As the years have passed, the ritual has stayed.

Consider September the “January” in fashion and look to your own wardrobe to see how you can evolve.  Maybe the time has come to throw out some of those old T-shirts that are just not cute anymore.  Trade them in for some new concert T-shirts to run your errands in.  Far more chic!  What about your jeans, or your work attire?  How can you add a few staple pieces to keep that professionalism?  A nice new leather belt might help cinch in that waist, maybe?

Either way, feel free to take part in this occasion as an opportunity to re-invent your style.  Clean out your closet, shop the stores, have some fun with it!
