FANSPIRED FLASHBACK: McFly & Busted (McBusted)

If you were a child of the 90’s you know exactly who these two groups are because they were one of your first teenage loves. They were the boy bands between the Nsync era and the One Direction Era that we all freaked out over. They dominated the charts in the UK and Ireland in the first half of the last decade. The two completely separate bands announced this week they are reforming as one and will now be known as McBusted. We honestly thought this was a fake story when we heard it but we kid you not, this is real. Charlie Simpson from Busted will not be joining the group on tour but Dougie Poynter, Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones and Harry Judd from  McFly are all on board as well as Matt Willis and James Bourne of Busted. The boys will turn the UK in 2014, they will also be performing tonight Friday November 15th on BBC’s Children In Need in the UK.

Busted & McFly Announce Joint Plans for 2014

Functional VS Flashy

CAR1

Something that has come to our attention since moving to L.A. is that there are some incredibly obnoxious cars in Los Angeles. We were both brought up believing that you should live within your means, driving $100, 000 cars is not something we can even comprehend. Cars are meant to be functional, they are there to get to from one place to another, yes some cars are safer than others therefore they cost more, this we understand but itsy bitsy sports cars that cost the same as a house are just ridiculous. We both agree that we would rather spend our money on making memories than what is basically a structure of metal.

Travel 2

We have seen so many teenagers driving around Los Angeles in cars that the average person would need to take out a mortgage on. We thought this was something that was rare like it only happens on TV but in L.A. it is an everyday thing. It is not a matter of ‘oh i can afford this car I should buy it’ that bothers us, it is the fact that so many people are buying these cars to “keep up with the Jones’” and that is something we find difficult to understand because we would rather drive a safe functional car so that we can use our extra money to go to college, travel or enjoy time with our friends than be crippled with the debt of a  snazzy car.

We are keeping this short and sweet, it is just something that baffles us. What do you think? Would you put yourself into extraordinary debt for something flashy or are you a functional type of person?

SPOTLIGHT: AAHSFF Official Selection Filmmaker, Luca Repola

la-et-ct-new-film-festival-high-school-student-001

As press partners with the All-American High School Film Festival, we thought it would be an awesome idea to interview a few of these talented young filmmakers whose films were chosen for the AAHSFF Official Selection. For the next couple of weeks, we are spotlighting these filmmakers one by one, day by day. Find out what inspired their short film, who they aspire to be, where they see themselves in ten years, and more! Yesterday we posted the first spotlight on finalist, Owen Grove, you can read it here.

Check out our interview with Luca Repola, director of “Philippe”

Name: Luca Repola
Film: “Philippe”

What inspired you the most when making your short film?
I think living in New York City is what inspired me. The original idea for the film came to me at 3am in a subway station. I saw a kid (around my age) in full soccer attire with a French national team jersey and a soccer ball. I built a story around his character, so I try to use the city in similar ways when I am working. It’s full of stories and experiences and one of my goals as a director is to highlight that in my films.

Who do you look up to or aspire to be?
I look up to a lot of successful artists, mainly because I think it takes a lot of effort to be good at your craft, respected by other people in your industry, and on top of that to support yourself off of that. Jay-Z, Keith Haring, Basquiat, Yoanne Lemoine. All very cool people who do very cool things…and are good at it.

What’s your fanspiration?
My fanspiration right now is Lorde’s new album. She’s amazing.

If you could remake any film, what would it be and why?
If I could remake any film it would probably be Enter the Void. I am in no way hating on Gaspar Noe, I think the idea was incredibly original and powerful and was executed pretty well. Personally, I felt that the film was a little slow and lengthy for such a crazy idea. If you haven’t seen it, you should definitely watch it.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself living the Entourage lifestyle. Mansion in Los Angeles with a bunch of my friends, kicking it poolside with some models… AND making really cool films, of course…

ABOUT AAHSFF

This year New York City is hosting the first annual ALL-AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL FILM FESTIVAL, giving students a chance to showcase their short films on the big screen. There is an All-American Basketball Game, and many similar ‘All-American High School’ competitions but nothing for film – a genre young people are embracing at breakneck speed. The festival is the brainchild of award-winning filmmaker Andrew Jenks. His films have been distributed by HBO and ESPN and his critically acclaimed documentary series, ‘World of Jenks’ is currently casting for season three. At age 16, Jenks founded a local High School Film Festival. Ten years later, his initial idea has turned into an opportunity for young filmmakers to showcase their talent. We have received nearly 1,000 amazing submissions from over 40 states as well as Japan, South Korea, South Africa, Canada, United Kingdom, Netherlands and France.
