Sarah Paulson, Taissa Farmiga, Frances Conroy, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Emma Roberts, Denis O’Hare, Kathy Bates, and Jessica Lange all come together in the fascinating season of “American Horror Story”. I was given the privilege to watch the first episode of “American Horror Story: Coven” last night in Linda Vista Community Hospital, appropriately named the third most haunted building in the US, with few others.

New to “American Horror Story” are Katy Bates and Emma Roberts who could not fit their parts any better. The title of this season gives the theme away — it’s about a coven of New Orleans young witches who learn how to fight those that oppress them. I don’t want to give too much away, but Taissa Farmiga and Jessica Lange channel their inner witches and do an impeccable job. For those of you that are AHS veterans, you are sure to have some what the f*** moments while watching the season premiere, but as the story progresses, these moments will hopefully start making more sense.

Kathy Bates portrays Madame LaLaurie, a crazy slave owner, who acts so gruesome in some scenes that it’s a bit difficult to watch. However, with that being said, there is some humor sprinkled throughout, and yes, I actually laughed. In the season premiere episode we are introduced to the characters, why they’re in New Orleans, and what special powers they have as witches. Throughout the episode it’ll be going back and forth to modern time and back to the 1830s which Katy Bates character comes in; and she is one hell of an actress! Overall, this episode kicked AHS off with a bang!

So is “American Horror Story: Coven” worth watching? Yes! If you loved the first two seasons, then you’ll love this season; however, don’t be discouraged if you haven’t watched the previous seasons. Staying true to AHS, the story lines do not carry over from season to season. What are you waiting for? Go catch the season premiere episode and tune in every Tuesday evening on FX to catch these witches in action!
