Ian Somerhalder (The Vampire Diaries) uses his celebrity to do good in the world with his environment-focused foundation ISF – the Ian Somerhalder Foundation. That is why Conde Nast Traveler magazine chose him as one of eight “global citizens” to be rewarded with a Vistionary title.

Ian more than deserves this title, as he is always reaching out to people in real life and on Twitter and uses these platforms to improve the environment, encourage young adults to vote, and be in the know about our world.  President Obama has even invited him to the White House to discuss sustainable energy, which just goes to show how much of an impact he is making with his efforts.

“We have what governments have been searching for high and low: voice and access,” says the self-taught tech wiz, who helped found Ryot?.org, a news site that allows users to click and take action on every article. “This is the age of social media. People are tired of having their environment poisoned. Policymakers are going to have to listen. We are the policymakers now.” – Conde Nast on Somerhalder

About his hometown in Louisiana: “The ecology here is so raw, so delicate,” says Somerhalder. “I learned young that this place needs to be protected.”
