-FAQ-

Q: How do I submit payment for my submission?

A: You don’t need to worry about payment until after April 22, 2014.  Once the Free Submission deadline passes, all submitting filmmakers will be sent an invoice within 24 hours of their submission.  Payments must be received in a timely fashion or we will not be able to consider screening your film.

Q: How and when do I find out if my film was chosen as an official selection?

A: All official selections will be notified by e-mail on Tuesday September 2nd 2014.

Q: What is the difference between an “Official Selection” and a “Award Nominee”?

A: If you are selected as an “Official Selection” that means your film will be shown on the big screen in New York City! In 2013 there were 84 “Official Selections” chosen from over over 1000 submissions! From the small pool of “Official Selections” three to seven films are nominated in each category by our esteemed judges as “Award Nominees”. These are the films that have been nominated to win a category and/or individual award. ***Please note: Official Selections are not necessarily nominated for an award***  Still, being an Official Selection is a tremendous honor designating your submission as nationally recognized talent.

Q: When will tickets for the 2014 AAHSFF go on sale?

A: Tickets for the 2014 AAHSFF will go on sale in the Spring of 2014.

Q: Can I submit more than one film?

A: Yes!  Filmmakers can submit multiple entries.  However, we ask that you send only your best work.

Q: Can films be submitted to more than one category?

A: No.  Please select the category that best fits your film.

Q: Are group projects accepted?

A: Yes!  Be sure to indicate all directors on the submission form.

Q: Does AAHSFF accept submissions from outside the United States?

A: Of course!  Don’t let our name fool you.  We encourage all young filmmakers to submit their films (as long as they were in high school upon project completion).  In fact, we plan on adding an International Award for the 2014 festival.

Q: Can I use copyrighted music and/or images in my film?

A: NO! You must use free music and/or images in your submission.  Please be sure to read the terms and conditions carefully when looking for permission to use music and/or images.  We received many quality submissions that did not use licensed music/images, thus disqualifying them from being screened.  Be careful! And remember, you can always create original music– we even have an Original Score Award!

Q: Does AAHSFF provide transportation to the festival for nominated filmmakers?

A: Unfortunately, we are not able to provide transportation at this time.  We continue to look for sponsors/partners who are willing to help with these costs.  We suggest planning your trip early and working on fundraising throughout the year.  In 2013, many students traveled to the festival from around the country.  They all worked hard throughout the year to make the trip a reality.

RECAP: Hostages (S01E03)

The third episode of “Hostages” started out with Ellen overhearing Duncan on the phone with his daughter and that there’s going to be an art fair at her school that day. Ellen tells her husband to find out what school is having an art fair today because she plans on sneaking away somehow to go. Meanwhile, Jake is trying to convince his dad he needs the money that he took from him a few days ago but his dad thinks its beer money so he won’t give it to him.

Back at the hospital, Ellen sneaks away into the room of a patient to use a cell phone to call Brian to see if he’s found out any information about the art fair. He tells her where the school is that is having the art fair and that he thinks she shouldn’t risk trying to go to meet Duncan’s daughter. She doesn’t listen of course and is able to sneak out by pretending she’s going into surgery and using one of her unknowing coworkers car. She goes to the school and pretends she is Sawyer’s aunt and tells Sawyer that she’s a friend of her fathers. She then stays with Sawyer at the school for a while and asks about her family and learns that her mother is sick in the hospital and that Duncan is actually an FBI agent. She leaves when she find that out, just in time because Kramer was coming to visit Sawyer since Duncan couldn’t.

Back at the school, Jake runs into the drug dealer he owes money too and tries to convince him that he had the money but lost it. The guy is sarcastic with him and then starts to beat Jake up, while that is happening, we see Kramer and Sandrine watching from afar. Kramer wants to help but Sandrine wont’ let him. Why does Kramer want to help Jake??

As Ellen is returning to the hospital she runs into Duncan terrified she’s been caught. As we’d seen earlier, Duncan and Quentin who is also in on the plan to assistant the President had a run in when the President decided to move to another hospital. Duncan tells Quentin not to worry that Ellen will be able to perform the surgery. That is why Duncan showed up at the hospital, he tells her that the President will be calling her to tell her he will be moving hospitals and her job is to convince him, and more importantly his wife that he shouldn’t switch. And she does just that, the president stays with her.

When they all arrive home that night, Brian tells Ellen that he thinks they should try and run away since she was able to do it once. She says she doesn’t want to risk it. He says he’s willing to stay behind and be a decoy and she says no. He then tells her that he’s been having an affair with someone from his work. Helen is speechless.

Wow. We didn’t think it was possible but now we have so many more questions running through our head!!

Catch an all new “Hostages” tonight October 14th on CBS at 10pm!
