-FAQ-
Q: How do I submit payment for my submission?
A: You don’t need to worry about payment until after April 22, 2014. Once the Free Submission deadline passes, all submitting filmmakers will be sent an invoice within 24 hours of their submission. Payments must be received in a timely fashion or we will not be able to consider screening your film.
Q: How and when do I find out if my film was chosen as an official selection?
A: All official selections will be notified by e-mail on Tuesday September 2nd 2014.
Q: What is the difference between an “Official Selection” and a “Award Nominee”?
A: If you are selected as an “Official Selection” that means your film will be shown on the big screen in New York City! In 2013 there were 84 “Official Selections” chosen from over over 1000 submissions! From the small pool of “Official Selections” three to seven films are nominated in each category by our esteemed judges as “Award Nominees”. These are the films that have been nominated to win a category and/or individual award. ***Please note: Official Selections are not necessarily nominated for an award*** Still, being an Official Selection is a tremendous honor designating your submission as nationally recognized talent.
Q: When will tickets for the 2014 AAHSFF go on sale?
A: Tickets for the 2014 AAHSFF will go on sale in the Spring of 2014.
Q: Can I submit more than one film?
A: Yes! Filmmakers can submit multiple entries. However, we ask that you send only your best work.
Q: Can films be submitted to more than one category?
A: No. Please select the category that best fits your film.
Q: Are group projects accepted?
A: Yes! Be sure to indicate all directors on the submission form.
Q: Does AAHSFF accept submissions from outside the United States?
A: Of course! Don’t let our name fool you. We encourage all young filmmakers to submit their films (as long as they were in high school upon project completion). In fact, we plan on adding an International Award for the 2014 festival.
Q: Can I use copyrighted music and/or images in my film?
A: NO! You must use free music and/or images in your submission. Please be sure to read the terms and conditions carefully when looking for permission to use music and/or images. We received many quality submissions that did not use licensed music/images, thus disqualifying them from being screened. Be careful! And remember, you can always create original music– we even have an Original Score Award!
Q: Does AAHSFF provide transportation to the festival for nominated filmmakers?
A: Unfortunately, we are not able to provide transportation at this time. We continue to look for sponsors/partners who are willing to help with these costs. We suggest planning your trip early and working on fundraising throughout the year. In 2013, many students traveled to the festival from around the country. They all worked hard throughout the year to make the trip a reality.
