Kristen Stewart, known for her ability to make casual cool again, is my style icon. It’s an unpopular opinion, I know, but there’s something about her that makes me want to defend her whenever someone makes the oh-so-familiar “she never smiles” comment. Perhaps I should give you some background before I dive in. Kristen started her career as a child actor, known for her starring role alongside Jodie Foster in Panic Room. She was a young tomboy, then, in a house full of brothers, both younger and older. With that being said, it shouldn’t be a surprise that her mannerisms, even today, are a bit boyish at times. Kristen’s unique sense of style and self-confidence has revolutionized the red carpet look, blurring the lines and sporting a perfect balance between masculinity and femininity whenever she can.
This actress has taken fashion by the horns, signing deals with large fashion houses like Balenciaga and, most recently, Chanel. Karl Lagerfeld was smart in his choice of Kristen Stewart as the face of his Métiers d’Art Paris-Dallas collection. Her edgy, slim, androgynous look is the perfect recipe for where fashion is heading. Since their meeting two years ago last month, Karl’s infatuation with the actress was apparent, extending invitations to his Paris Fashion Week shows over the past couple of seasons. One of my favorite looks occurred at last year’s Fall collection showcase where Kristen wore black leather short shorts, paired with a classic cream-colored tweed Chanel blazer, accessorized with black, fingerless leather gloves. Oh, and did I mention the blinged-out chain link bracelets?
Kristen’s red carpet style takes greater risks than her everyday, casual look. Photos of the actress hanging out with friends, walking her dogs, and filling up her tank all depict outfits that any one of us could wear. Kristen loves to pair her vintage T-shirts with skinny jeans, worn-in sneakers, and a ‘I’m too cool for you’ backwards-facing snapback hat. It’s incredible that she can go from one look to the next — red carpet glam to T-shirt and jeans — looking just as flawless and making you want to be her. You can find most of Kristen’s everyday outfits at UrbanOutfitters.com.
Kristen is most recognized for her role as Bella Swan in Twilight. She toured all over the world, attending red carpet premieres in Berlin, Paris, London, New York, Tokyo, and Los Angeles to name a few, wearing dresses by designers ranging from Zuhair Murad to Elie Saab. Since then, Kristen has made a name for herself in the Indie movie world, most recently promoting On The Road at the 2012 AFI Fest and Camp X-Ray at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. She’s beautiful, daring, and original. When something works, she’s not afraid to wear it again, in a modified way. These are all characteristics of a true fashionista on the rise.
Get the look:
In order to achieve the Kristen Stewart look, you must start with the basics. When running errands or hanging out with friends, Kristen wears a T-shirt, skinny jeans, and a pair of sneakers. The best (and cheapest) place you can find those vintage shirts is Goodwill (or any local vintage shops). Now, for the jeans, Kristen seems to splurge on this closet staple. Why, you may ask? Well, jeans last a lifetime and when you are Kristen Stewart and were on Forbes’ Top Earning Actresses List, spending a little more on some comfy jeans is worth it. Kristen typically wears skinny jeans from 7 For All Mankind, J Brand, and James Jean. Lace up a pair of Converse or old sneakers for the finishing touch.
When it comes to Kristen’s glam look, pick a silhouette that you are comfortable in. Kristen always talks about choosing the dress that she feels the most confident in because if you feel good in it, you look good in it. All the drama, however, is saved for the make-up. Kristen is known for her flawless, porcelain skin, so a pale foundation is her go-to with light pink cheeks. Her eyes are highlighted by using the classic Smokey eye look in dramatic black coupled with voluminous lashes for days. Kristen prefers a nude lip, but is known to surprise us all with the traditional bright red every now and then. Lastly, the shoes. We all know Kristen hates heels, but she puts all hatred for them aside when walking the red carpet. Slip on a pair of black pumps and you’ve got yourself a Kristen Stewart-inspired red carpet look.
Fashion Forecast:
With Kristen as the new face of Chanel’s Métiers d’Art Paris-Dallas collection and Paris Fashion Week only a month away, I predict Kristen to wear pieces from the Paris-Dallas line, keeping the accessories to a minimum but going dramatic on the hair. Kristen loves rings, so I could totally see her rocking Diamondere’s two-tone Fagen ring along with pieces by jewelry designer/make-up artist, Jillian Dempsey. Kristen sported partial dread locks at the premiere of Camp X-Ray at the Sundance Film Festival, so in terms of what her hairdresser will do, I know it will be simply stunning. Now if we are staying with the Paris-Dallas theme, I’d think it’d be funny and cute to give her that big Texas hair 😉
